The battle between the two PC Game Stores, Steam and Epic Games is still not over. It seems that Epic Games has more surprises when it comes to exclusive games and absolutely serious to compete against Steam. First, Metro Exodus became a timed Exclusive to Epic Games. Second, they acquire The Division 2 game. Now, Rocket League will soon be an almost exclusive game to Epic Games. Psyonix, the developer behind the vehicular soccer video game will now be acquired by Epic Games that was announced by Epic Games itself.
According to the press release, Psyonix, and Epic said that the PC version of the game will also come to Epic Games Store in “Late 2019”. The console version of the game will remain on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will remain for sale on other gaming platforms including Steam but will not last according to the press release. Both Epic and Psyonix say that the game will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing purchasers but the language sounds of the game will be an Epic Game Store exclusive on PC.
Some inquiries have been answered by Psyonix based on its Website about their Collaboration with Epic Games:
In the short term, nothing will change at all! We’re still committed to providing Rocket League with frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game for as long as you’ll have us.
In the long-term, we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before. We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.
The effectivity of the acquisition of the game is said to be either at the end of May or in early June. Now that Epic has bought Psyonix, Rocket League is getting a review bomb on Steam. Most of the reviews are about Epic’s acquisition of Psyonix that lead them to make a censure by posting negative reviews. Some Steam users have spent a total of 3,000 hours of game time playing it. This action has caused a backlash to gamers playing the game, especially on Steam. Rocket League will still be playable for all existing users on Steam and will still be supported but will no longer be available like purchasing it once it has been released on Epic Games.
